A liter of milk for three kronor or a packet of coffee for 14. The products on the shelf have not yet passed the best-before date, but still risk becoming food waste in the regular grocery store.

The City Mission's chain Matmissionen is already located in Jakobsberg and Hägersten, but now three more stores are opening in the Stockholm area.

Hallunda center was inaugurated on Wednesday.

- I shop once a week, for me it means a lot that the store is there, says Sarah Grape who is a member of Matmissionen.

To be able to shop at the store's lowest prices, a certificate is required that the member has a low income.

- Today we have 7000 members in our existing stores, but we expect that the number will more than double, says Johan Rindevall, head of the Food Mission.

In addition to selling heavily discounted food and reducing food waste, people who are far from the labor market get an opportunity to work out in the shops.

The fact that there are now more stores is thanks to cooperation and donations from the Swedish Grocery Trade and the Grocery Suppliers Association.
