• At 60 days from the first round, the presidential campaign only interests 63% of young people aged 18 to 30, according to our OpinionWay barometer –

    – Journals de Loire published on Wednesday.

  • And for good reason, 42% of 18-30 year olds say that their ideas are not represented by a candidate and 47% think that their personal situation will not improve if their favorite candidate wins.

  • Result, if voting intentions progress among young people aged 18 to 30, they are still only 49% to say that they will vote in the first round of the presidential election.

A result, however, up four points compared to January.

The presidential election, they willingly agree to talk about it.

Disturbed in the middle of a sports session, this group of students did not hesitate to suspend their pull-ups to discuss the subject.

At Paris-Nanterre University, the campaign is a real topic of conversation.

“It's very interesting, notes Thomas, 19 years old.

The campaign was going to be very boring, with a second round announced Macron-Le Pen, and Zemmour's candidacy makes it more acidulous ”.

“You mean more stressful,” corrects Emma, 20.

Like these two law students, like 63% of 18-30 year olds say they are interested in the electoral campaign, according to the barometer #MoiJeune2022 OpinionWay –

20 Minutes

Ouest France

– Journals de Loire * published this Wednesday.

A figure up only one point compared to January, but which progresses by four points for the category of “very interested”, who are, it should be noted, much more numerous than the “not at all interested”, at 9 %.

If two months before the first round, we could have expected a more massive interest in French political life, many assure that they will look into the question “a fortnight before” the first round of the ballot, on April 10. .

But above all, a good number of young people (42%) consider that their ideas are not represented by the candidates.

“We especially have the impression that they are there to shoot each other in the legs, not to help France”, regrets Titouan, 21, a history student.

"These are ego wars, all that," adds Adrien, 19, with a law degree.

“And the debates?

These are just assaults!

“, adds Theo, 19 years old.

“No candidate represents everything I think,” analyzes Nelson, 19, a Staps student.

The young fatalists

Fatalists in the face of this election, 47% of young people think that their personal situation will not improve if their favorite candidate wins.

A figure, however, down five points from January.

If a relative optimism wins over all young people aged 18 to 30 as the election approaches, the opposite effect is observed among 18-22 year olds.

40% of them felt that the election would have no impact on their personal life in January.

They are now 42% of this opinion.

"Frankly, as a citizen, I don't expect much," says Manon, a 20-year-old psychology student.

“We know very well that we will not see the color of most of the promises of the candidates”, adds Fiona, 20 years old.

"We vote to be in agreement with his vision of the world, but I know very well that my life is not going to change much," summarizes Félix, 18, a political science student.

The temptation of the blank vote

Felix declares that he will vote.

But the others?

In the alleys of Paris-Nanterre, the vast majority of students met say yes, with justifications such as “it's the presidential election, anyway!

", "it's a civic duty", "my friends" or "my parents" "force me to vote", "I'm going to enter working life, it's time for me to take an interest in the life of the country ".

But overall, only 49% of young people aged 18 to 30 say they will travel on April 10.

If the intention to vote has increased by four points since January, it remains below all French voters, who are 55% certain to move to the voting booth.

As for the bulletin that they will slip into the ballot box, among the students of Paris-Nanterre, it is still rather vague.

“We don't vote for the best candidate, we vote for the worst.

It revolts me”, irritates Theo.

For many of these students, the temptation to vote blank is very great.
