In a phone conversation with Biden, the Saudi king supports the US strategy towards Iran and supports a peaceful solution in Yemen

Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud said that his country supports the efforts of the US administration to prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon, and supports a comprehensive peaceful solution in Yemen.

This came during a phone call received by King Salman from US President Joe Biden, according to the official Saudi Press Agency.

During the call, they emphasized the strategic relationship and the importance of strengthening the partnership between the two countries.

The Saudi monarch stressed the importance of continuing and strengthening joint security cooperation in the field of combating terrorism and its financing.

And he valued Biden's commitment to supporting the kingdom "in defending its lands and protecting its citizens, and (Washington's) position in securing the kingdom's defense needs."

He stressed the Kingdom's support for the US administration's efforts to prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon, and the need for joint action "to confront the destructive activities of Iran's arms in the region."

Regional and Western capitals accuse Iran of having an expansionist agenda in the Middle East, interfering in the internal affairs of Arab countries, threatening international navigation, and seeking to produce nuclear weapons, while Tehran says that it is committed to good neighborly relations, and that its nuclear program is designed for peaceful purposes.

In a related context, the Saudi monarch expressed the Kingdom's keenness to reach a comprehensive political solution in Yemen.

For nearly 7 years, Yemen has been witnessing a war between forces loyal to the legitimate government, backed by an Arab military alliance led by the neighboring Saudi Arabia, and the Iranian-backed Houthis, who have controlled several governorates, including the capital, Sanaa, since September 2014.

With regard to energy and oil markets, the Saudi monarch stressed the importance of maintaining the balance and stability of oil markets, noting the role of the historic "OPEC Plus" agreement in this, and the importance of maintaining it.
