KUWAIT -

Kuwaiti inventor, engineer Jenan Al-Shehab, attributed her withdrawal from Expo 2020 Dubai to the exhibition's invitation to celebrate the Israeli occupation state, as well as the visit of Israeli President Isaac Herzog to Abu Dhabi.

Al-Shehab added - in an interview with Al-Jazeera Net - that she was aware of Israel's participation in a pavilion in the exhibition, and this is a reality we live in, "but the events that accompanied that, such as the celebration with the occupying country or the visit of its president, is the main motive for ending participation in the exhibition."

Al-Shehab explained that her participation in Expo 2020 Dubai came after being nominated from two pavilions in the exhibition, stressing that participation in this major global event is a good thing.

It is a big and successful event, but in the end I decided to withdraw and not continue participating.

After the "Expo Dubai" account posted a picture on its Instagram account of the Israel pavilion in the exhibition with the phrase "Let's celebrate with Israel", Al-Shehab responded to this photo by saying, "And I announced my withdrawal from the Expo."

Engineer Jenan Al-Shehab is currently working on an important invention, a "wireless power transmission system" registered with the US Patent Office (USPTO), and says that she will continue to work on this invention until it reaches the market.

The invention is a system that helps in charging phones wirelessly and operating all electronic devices wirelessly, from a distance without the need to use electrical connections.

Trial and failure

The Kuwaiti engineer hoped that the young generation would start their journey and not be ashamed of experience or failure, "Any work is not born perfect, and therefore a person must not give up from the first experience, but rather work and persevere, and every diligent will have a share in the end."

It is noteworthy that the engineer Jenan Al-Shehab - who entered the world of inventions and innovation at the age of 15 - had her first invention, an "alert device for marine debris and oil tankers", which coincided with the disaster of "fish death in Kuwait".

The Kuwaiti engineer won the gold medal at the World Village Conference (WGC) in Japan in 2021, and she also won the gold medal at the Da Vinci International Exhibition of Invention and Innovation in the United States of America in 2021.

Al-Shehab's withdrawal came days after the withdrawal of the Kuwaiti tennis player, Muhammad Al-Awadi, as the latter garnered Kuwaiti popular sympathy.

The Kuwaiti tennis player was widely praised on social media, after he withdrew from facing an Israeli player in the semi-finals of the international championship for professionals under the age of 14, which was held in the Emirate of Dubai, in the UAE.

Kuwaiti media reported that Al-Awadi succeeded in winning and ascending to the semi-finals of the tournament, but - as soon as he learned of the confrontation with the Israeli player - the Kuwaiti player decided to withdraw and not participate.
