• About 500 people attended the street meeting organized on Tuesday by Yannick Jadot and his environmental supporters.

  • The aim of this “tour of possibilities” is to attract people who are far from politics by speaking out in the public space.

  • In the audience, many young people were present.

Many of them seem lost in the face of the multiple candidacies on the left for the 2022 presidential election.

“We were a little afraid of being 200.” On the jacket of this environmental activist, a “Jadot 2022” badge is pinned.

A member of the 2022 presidential candidate's campaign team, he can breathe.

The popular meeting organized outdoors on a square in Rennes was “a success”.

“We counted 450 to 500 people.

This is more than the objective we had set ourselves.

There was a real risk taking to organize a street meeting like that, at noon time, ”said Glenn André, one of the leaders of Yannick Jadot's campaign in Rennes.

In a campaign where the climate issue has little place, the environmental candidate tries to distinguish himself by his "tour of possibilities" which has already taken him to Lyon and Lille, clearly targeting the vote of the urban population.

On Place Hoche, a small podium has been set up, a few meters from the Faculty of Economics at Rennes 1 University. against the airport project at Notre-Dame-des-Landes, which has been abandoned.

"Proof that when you fight, you can win," says Claire Desmares-Poirrier.

On the stage, the one who led the environmentalist list to the last regional plays the room heater.

Yannick Jadot ends up crossing the square to the sound of the punk version of "What a wonderful world" performed by The Ramones.

“I seek the best choice to avoid the worst”

For twenty minutes, the presidential candidate presents his program, tackling the ravages of intensive agriculture, denouncing student precariousness or the lack of support for public services.

“This five-year term is one of climate inaction.

We thirst for a benevolent future”.

“He says that, but he is 4% in the polls,” discreetly tackles a young woman in the audience as the speech continues.

"The fight of ecologists is the defense of beauty, of freedom", launches Yannick Jadot at the microphone.

In the assembly, we are far from hysteria.

But the audience is attentive and remains numerous to listen to the candidate.

Some passed by by chance, others were alerted by a leaflet at the end of class.

“This morning, they wanted to give me a leaflet from Zemmour in front of the university, but I refused.

This afternoon was for Jadot.

I was curious to come and listen to what he had to present”, says Julie.

Registered in the first year of law, the 18-year-old young woman voted for the first time last year.

In his big blue eyes, we read the desire for a “social and ecological” left.

“When I look at the polls, it saddens me.

The left is so divided that I don't even know who to vote for anymore.

I'm lost.

I am looking for the best choice to avoid the worst,” says the young woman.

At his side, his friend Laurine is no more advanced.

She admits having voted green in the last regional events in Brittany and admires the "very human, down to earth" side of Yannick Jadot.

This afternoon, she had come to seek answers on renewable energies that she did not get.

“I am convinced that we must act now.

But all the contestants just seem to want to win.

There is a war of egos that is beyond me.

When they left for class, the two young women appreciated the format of speaking out in the middle of the street.

“It's accessible, everyone can stop and listen, whether you vote for it or not.

"The only one who embodies real change"

Sitting a little further, Benoît and Hugo are fervent supporters of the environmentalist candidate.

But they are not politically engaged.

“For me, it's the only one that embodies real change.

Even if he is unlikely to be president, I think it is important that he make his ideas heard, ”said Hugo.

“All the experts talk about the urgent need to act for the climate, but we don't talk about it much during this campaign.

It's a shame,” continues Benoît.

After a little over twenty minutes on stage, Yannick Jadot launches a big "kenavo" and raises his arms to the sound of the song

Bruxelles je t'aime

 performed by Angèle.

The environmental candidate hopes to be able to count on the votes of the Breton capital, which elected five environmentalists in its six cantons in the last departmental elections.

“We have had a lot of political surprises lately.

We have a strong project, a credible project, that of ecology.

The French men and women will seize it, ”promises Yannick Jadot during an improvised press briefing on Place Sainte-Anne.

Behind him, a street musician plays a few trumpet notes.

The signal for a campaign finally launched?

Not (yet) agree with Christiane Taubira

After the revelations of a meeting on Sunday with the teams of Christiane Taubira with a view to merging the candidacies, Yannick Jadot did not wish to extend.

“Christiane Taubira's team wanted to meet us.

Listen, we are courteous, so we listened to them.

You know, we are sure of our campaign, we are not nervous.

What if Christiane Taubira stood behind him?

“I am in favor of all quality people who would like to join us.

Christiane Taubira has talent, we have in our country many progressives, humanists who are disappointed with all the broken promises of the President of the Republic”.
