- I completely lost the students when they sat at a distance, says Johan Strandqvist.

For three semesters, high school students were more or less allowed to sit completely at a distance.

And there is a risk of loss of knowledge, confirms the National Agency for Education in a report published in December 2021.

Distance education not as effective

High school teacher Johan Strandqvist says that the students at a distance asked fewer questions than usual and had difficulty keeping their motivation up in front of the computer.

In the clip, Johan Strandqvist talks about the problems of explaining physics tasks at a distance.

"Adapt to the conditions"

Although the grades have looked stable even during the pandemic, teachers' ability to give a fair grade has become more difficult.

- Our assessment is that the stable grade results in themselves do not mean that it can be ruled out that the students' knowledge development may have been negatively affected.

It is probable that teachers have to some extent had to adapt their grading based on the conditions.

We will continue to follow up and analyze the students' grade results, says Anna Castberg who is head of the investigation unit at the National Agency for Education.

This is a picture that Johan Strandqvist also confirms:

- I think you can see a certain grade inflation, that you were kinder when you set grades.
