The Assize Court of Saint-Denis de La Réunion sentenced Ridaï-Mdallah Mari to thirty years in prison on Monday, tried for the murder of a student.

extreme violence

The facts, of "great savagery" according to the public prosecutor of Saint-Denis at the time, had occurred in the apartment occupied by the accused, in the generally quiet district of Sainte-Marie .

Warned by neighbors alerted by the cries of the victim, the men of the intervention group of the national gendarmerie (GIGN) had to negotiate for a long time with the man who had taken refuge in his home before arresting him.

They had discovered inside a scene showing extreme violence.

The killer's words had cast doubt on his mental state, but psychiatric experts considered that there was no abolition or alteration of his discernment.

At the hearing, the accused repeated that he had killed the young girl “to save humanity”.

“You will go to hell,” he threatened the audience.
