Regarding the 'controversy in hanbok' at the opening ceremony of the Beijing Winter Olympics, it is reported that the Chinese side has made a statement to South Korea that "the contents of the opening ceremony performance have absolutely nothing to do with the so-called cultural origin issue".

When the Korean diplomatic authorities conveyed domestic interest and concerns regarding the controversy, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs explained that China made this statement, saying, "It is well aware of the relevant public opinion trends in Korea."

It is reported that the Chinese side explained that Korea would not need to be particularly concerned culturally, saying that various ethnic groups in China, including the Korean-Chinese, appeared in traditional clothes at the opening ceremony.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is known to continue communication with the Chinese side through various channels.

At a regular briefing today (8th), Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Choi Young-sam countered the criticism that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs responded passively to China's attempts to distort culture, saying, "We have not been passively responding."

Earlier, at the opening ceremony of the Beijing Winter Olympics held on the 4th, a woman wearing a hanbok appeared as one of the representatives of 56 nationalities in China delivering the Chinese five-star and red flag.

In Korea, criticism was flooded in saying that 'China is claiming that the hanbok is theirs'.

Controversy that China is trying to appropriate Korea's indigenous culture as its own culture has been repeatedly raised recently, and this is a criticism of the accumulating anti-Chinese sentiment in the country.
