This Wednesday, February 2, during the first cremation of the day, an explosion occurred in one of the two ovens of the Landouge crematorium, in Limoges.
“The explosion is due to the presence inside the coffin of an aerosol bomb, specifies the city of Limoges in a press release on Friday.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
The police were called to the scene to inspect the damage, as required by law.
Several weeks of work
The oven in question was seriously damaged and work lasting several weeks will have to be carried out.
To make matters worse, the second oven is undergoing maintenance and cannot be put back into service until Tuesday, February 8.
“The families whose deceased were to be cremated this weekend or Monday have been informed, specifies the City.
Some were redirected by their funeral provider to another crematorium, others wished to do the tribute ceremony on the date scheduled at the Limoges crematorium, the cremation of the deceased taking place from Tuesday.

The municipality has apologized to the families affected by this incident and support is offered for the reorganization of the ceremonies.
