He pointed out that most patients undergoing both types of surgery (benign and malignant tumors) are over 50 years old, of whom about 40% are citizens, and the rest are from other nationalities, mostly Arabs.

Muqresh stated that the enlargement of the prostate occurs naturally with age in men, and as for its infection with a malignant tumor, the genetic factor plays an important role in the high rates of infection, pointing out that the symptoms of the disease do not appear except with a clinical examination, or when complications occur in advanced cases such as the spread of the tumor In other organs, most of which are the bones, the suffering of benign prostate patients appears in weak urine force and frequency, especially at night, or the inability to control it.

He revealed that a complete bladder removal with a cancerous tumor was performed and a new replacement bladder was made from the intestine that performs similar functions, explaining that the operation was performed on a British patient residing in the country, and that the entire bladder was removed along with the rest of the pelvic organs from the uterus and ovaries, and the new bladder was connected to the natural opening of the urethra. The operation took six hours, and it is considered one of the largest urological surgeries and is performed in a few centers around the world.

He stated that Mafraq Hospital performs such operations three times a year for both men and women, noting that bladder cancer is more common in men than women, and the number of patients visiting Mafraq Hospital with this disease is about 15 patients per week, 70% of whom are men. The newly discovered cases are treated in their early stages with endoscopy and periodic follow-up.

In addition, Moqresh pointed out to a new method for breaking up large stones in the kidneys by means of a transdermal endoscope, as the traditional surgical opening is dispensed with and a small opening is made through the skin to enter a special endoscope into the kidneys to break up large stones and then withdraw them, in a process that takes between one and two hours. He stressed that the hospital is in the process of establishing a new urology unit as part of the implementation plan for the new Mafraq Hospital, and the focus will be on achieving optimum use of modern technologies, especially laser applications in urological surgery.

He added that the hospital's urology unit receives daily between 30 and 40 patients of different ages, 80% of whom are men, 15% are women, 5% are children, and 40% of the affected men suffer from benign prostatic hyperplasia. And 10% of prostate cancer, 20% of all kinds of stone diseases, 20% of kidney and bladder diseases, and 10% of other diseases.

Moqresh pointed out that the age groups of the affected women are over 40 years old and suffer from the formation of stones, urinary tract infections, urinary incontinence and tumors, 50% of them need surgical intervention to remove stones, treat bladder tumors, or treat urinary incontinence.

He stated that the causes of stone formation in children are mostly genetic, then congenital malformations come in second place, noting that from 10 to 15 children are treated annually for kidney stones at ages ranging from (three to 10 years), 50% of them They need surgical intervention to remove large stones, and 50% of their stones are removed by lithotripsy.
