A study result showed that the vaccine booster shot that was developed specifically for the COVID-19 omicron mutation is not significantly different from the existing vaccine booster shot in terms of the protective effect against the omicron mutation.

Researchers at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases in the United States compared the immune responses after inoculating Moderna's existing booster shot and Omicron mutation customized booster shot, respectively, to monkeys 9 months old after receiving two doses of Moderna's Corona 19 vaccine.

As a result of the experiment, there was no significant difference between the two in terms of the protective effect, and the neutralizing antibody response to all 'concern mutations' including omicron mutations significantly increased after both booster shot inoculations.

These results mean that there is no need to radically redesign vaccines for Omicron, the researchers said.

However, the results of this study have not yet been peer-reviewed.
