The Ministry of Education is investigating and will inform the Juvenile Prosecutor of a case in which

crabs appeared in the eyelashes

of three students from the Jesús, Maria i Josep school in Barcelona, known as Pare Manyanet, after the Directorate General for Child Care of the Generalitat has transferred the case to the ministry.

The one in charge of investigating the case is the Support Unit for Students Victims of Violence (USAV), the body that launched the department about a year ago to

prevent, detect and manage all cases of violence

in schools.

The investigation has arisen as a result of the complaint filed by a family last November before the General Directorate of Child Care of the Generalitat (DGAIA) about the appearance of crabs in the eyes of the students in 2017.

At that time, the eyelashes of three second-grade students at the school were full of crabs, lice that generally live in the

pubic or genital area of humans

, so their transmission occurs through sexual contact.

The case was reported in 2017 and the DGAIA investigated it then. However, in a letter now sent to the complaining family, and to which Efe has accessed, this organization states that "after having made the pertinent consultations and having reviewed the case, given the seriousness and in view of the powers of the DGAIA, it follows the case to the Ministry of Education" for its

"corresponding assessment

in accordance with the protocol for child and adolescent abuse in the educational field".

All this, according to the DGAIA, "without prejudice to the communication to the Juvenile Prosecutor's Office, the guard court or the Mossos d'Esquadra based on the corresponding complaint, if pertinent" since the case

"must be dealt with in the criminal sphere and educational"

because the events occurred "within a school and not at the family level".

It so happens that the Ministry of Education has already investigated Pare Manyanet after the

suicide of a

third-year ESO student last May and found no "indications of harassment."

Likewise, in March 2021, the Mossos d'Esquadra arrested a parish priest from the Sant Andreu neighborhood belonging to the Congregation of the Brothers of the Sagrada Familia-Pare Manyanet in Barcelona for possession of child pornography.

The arrest was the result of a complaint filed by a computer scientist from the Pare Manyanet school who, when going to repair the priest's computer, found abundant

child pornographic material

on it .

In the first instance, the educational center filed its computer for violating the intimacy, privacy and image of the religious, although it finally ended up showing its support for the technician.
