Many parents know and fear the tense childcare situation that has repeatedly arisen due to group closures after a Corona outbreak. The Frankfurt Health Department has now announced a new approach. The good news for all parents who have repeatedly had to face the challenge of combining childcare and work in the past few weeks: the closure of kindergarten groups or even entire facilities should be avoided. If a positive corona case occurs in a daycare group, the care of the other children in this group can continue. The prerequisite for this is that all children in the affected group are tested daily five days after the last contact with the child who tested positive. This applies equally to vaccinatedrecovered and unvaccinated children.

There are three options for testing:

  • in a test center or with general practitioners

  • at home with a certificate from the parents

  • in the day-care center after consultation with the respective facility

It needs a close-meshed test procedure, says Dr.

Antoni Walczok, deputy head of the Frankfurt Health Department.

"The aim is to avoid closures whenever possible." The test results must be presented in the daycare center and must not be older than 24 hours.

In addition, according to Walczok, the kindergarten must ensure that the group in which children who have tested positive are looked after separately, i.e. do not mix with other children in the facility.
