While class councils were held Thursday evening at the Lapierre de Lormont college, near Bordeaux, the vehicle of an EPS teacher parked in the staff parking lot, located inside the establishment, was set on fire.

Incidents had taken place on December 31 in this city on the right bank of Bordeaux.

“Once the colleagues had gathered to wait for the firefighters, they learned from the head of the establishment who had come out with them that there had been other fire attempts in the past few days, within the premises of the building. 'establishment,' tells

Arnaud Lacombe, co-departmental secretary of the SNES-FSU.

The college service car had been targeted in particular and a fire outbreak had been contained in the toilets.

A tense climate

In this REP + college, in the suburbs of Bordeaux, the situation has been deteriorating for a while.

Violence between students, directed against teachers, incivility and degradation are increasing, reports the union representative.

“This Friday morning, around 7:30 a.m., around thirty teachers found themselves in front of the college gate and decided to exercise their right of withdrawal for security reasons, explains Arnaud Lacombe.

The students were called to turn around.

The dialogue with the families and the students took place calmly”.

The deputy academic director Frédéric Fabre went there: “it is an unacceptable act, there is a firm condemnation on our part”, he underlines with

.

But once that said, he regretted that the reception of the students was not assured.

"Even if we understand the emotion and fear of teachers, we must continue our public service mission of education and welcome students in the best conditions," he added.

A lack of support for the SNES-FSU which speaks of “rebellious” teachers.

“In view of the departures of the fires which have been observed in particular in the toilets, we very strongly suspect one or more pupils of the establishment, specifies Arnaud Lacombe, without it being known whether this fire is a measure of revenge compared to the colleague specifically.

Security guards and an additional supervisor

Two agents from the mobile security team had already been sent by the administration in the context of the rise in tension in the establishment.

Two additional agents will be mobilized from Monday, announces the academic management.

And a supervisor will also come to reinforce the staff, until the end of the year.

In the longer term, this involves substantive work that does not only involve the national education services.

“The tensions of the district penetrate into the college and it is a new problem.

The response in this establishment, which is part of the educational city system, must be collective,” emphasizes Frédéric Fabre.

Teachers plan to exercise their right of withdrawal until Monday inclusive.

“They want the administration to go there and talk to everyone (and not just a few like this Friday) reports Arnaud Lacombe.

The administration must face up to its responsibilities as the situation deteriorates and has been reported on several occasions”.
