A Kuwaiti decision determines who deserves the title “Sheikh” in official documents and transactions

The General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers circulated a letter to ministries and government agencies, including a request to remove 71 unapproved names (men and women) from the list of names of members of the ruling family, while asking government agencies to take the necessary measures regarding the deletion of the title (Sheikh) or profession (a member of the ruling family). ) who were placed for them in violation of what is mentioned in the Al-Sabah family tree.

According to the Kuwaiti newspaper, Al-Rai, the names from which the title should be deleted are those who do not descend from the offspring of the late Sheikh Sabah the First, from whom the family hails, and they do not have any advantages or allowances that family members enjoy by virtue of the constitution.

This circular will entail that government agencies will remove the title “Sheikh” from the names included in the deletion list from all their transactions, foremost of which is the Civil Information Authority, and commercial transactions, whether in relation to establishing companies, owning shares, real estate registration, bank deposits, and others. From financial transactions, up to electricity bills.

Also, it will not be allowed to record the title of a sheikh or a job (a member of the ruling family) in any commercial, legal or financial transaction in front of the names of the people on the list, in addition to other transactions, as it will be limited to recording their names without any title, provided that this is taken into account in the registration The future transactions related to them, as well as the processing of their old transactions, which are registered in the ministries and concerned authorities.
