Yesterday, at the UAE National Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai, the book "The World Poetry Tree" was launched, which collects poems for hope, love and peace, created by poets from around the world, from five continents.

The Minister of Culture and Youth, Noura bint Mohammed Al Kaabi, witnessed the launch of the book, in the presence of the initiative's owners, the family of Emirati poet Adel Khuzam, whose members worked to coordinate, edit and design the work in a creative and innovative way.

The book includes poems by more than 405 of the world's leading poets from 106 countries, some of whom are candidates for the Nobel Prize for Literature. It also includes directors of international poetry festivals, and supervisors of magazines and cultural platforms on five continents.

In addition to professors of literature at international universities, who participate with their texts in this global literary work, which is issued in English in an electronic version of 1,000 pages, on the occasion of the meeting of the cultures of the world's countries on the land of the UAE at the Expo 2020 Dubai.

innovative initiatives

Noura Al Kaabi confirmed that "the Ministry of Culture and Youth is keen to support innovative initiatives and ideas for the people of the country, and the UAE, which hosts the cultures and arts of 192 countries at the (Expo 2020 Dubai), opens its arms to embrace every creative voice and every honest word."

The book was supervised by the poet Adel Khuzam, one of the most prominent poetic names in the Emirates, who has so far published 15 books, and won a number of awards, including the “Toliola Prize for Poetry” in Italy, and the World Federation of Hispanic Writers awarded him the “Silver Shield” for his outstanding work. In the interest of education, culture, art, poetry, literature, peace and social justice.

His family members participated in editing and coordinating the book with him: Dr. Hiam Abdel Hamid in the review, Hamdan and Mona Khuzam in coordination and editing, while the designer, Manal Khuzam, took over the implementation of the artistic direction of the ontology of this tree, which consists of 12 branches, and each branch contains poets whose leaves are distributed on different branches. Each branch bears a subtitle with an innovative design theme for each branch, all inspired by the idea of ​​the tree.

For his part, Adel Khuzam expressed his sincere thanks to the Minister of Culture and Youth for her support and sponsorship of this initiative that serves the slogan of "Expo Dubai", which is "Connecting Minds and Building the Future", adding: "Poetry is at the heart of human thought that calls for the convergence of civilizations and cultures, and work." Together for love, hope and peace.

Therefore, we wanted, in my name and on behalf of all the world’s poets, to leave a mark in this global cultural celebration, and for poetry to have its presence and its voice capable of transcending distances and continents to reach everyone.”

He continued, "The most beautiful thing is that we want to consolidate the presence of poetry in all upcoming (Expo) exhibitions, and we have already started preparing for the second version of this tree for its launch at (Expo Osaka) in Japan 2025."

The names

Many of the world's leading poets participate in the book, including: Belgian Germaine Dragenbrodt, candidate for the 2017 Nobel Prize for Literature, Colombian Fernando Rendon, coordinator of the International Poetry Movement, founder and director of the Medellin International Poetry Festival, American Michael Rothenberg, founder of the 100,000 Poets for Change movement, and Italian Claudia Bigino, director Continental Europe at the World Poetry Festival, Indian Rati Saxena, one of the most prominent names in the “Kritia Poetry Movement” in India, Vadim Terkhin, former head of the Russian Writers Union, British Jenny Lewis, professor of poetry at Oxford University, and about 65 Arab poets, including:Charbel Dagher and Wadih Saadeh from Lebanon, Qassem Haddad from Bahrain, Ahmed Al Mulla from Saudi Arabia, Ali Jaafar Al-Alaq from Iraq, Saif Al-Rahbi from Oman, Ahmed Swilam from Egypt, Hassan Najmi from Morocco, Ali Abu Khattab from Palestine, Kholoud Al Mualla from the UAE, and Nashmi Muhanna From Kuwait, and the list goes on, with participations from China, Asia, Europe, Australia and the Americas, with poets all occupying a prominent position in the global poetry movement.
