“The Senate House approved the official letter from the President of the Republic extending the state of emergency in the provinces of Biobio, Arauco, Cautín and Malleco for 15 days,” the upper house of parliament said on Twitter.

According to RIA Novosti with reference to local media, the decision of the authorities is connected with a number of new crimes and murders registered in the south of the country at the beginning of this year.

In October, Chilean President Sebastian Piñera declared a state of emergency in a number of regions in the south of the country in connection with a series of arsons.
