Sources told Al Jazeera that Qatar's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani will travel to the Iranian capital, Tehran, on Thursday, on a visit that discusses regional issues.

Yesterday, the Qatari Foreign Minister discussed, in a telephone conversation with his Iranian counterpart, Hussein Amir Abdollahian, the latest regional developments.

The Qatar News Agency said that the two ministers reviewed bilateral relations between the two countries and ways to develop them in various fields.

The latest regional developments were also discussed, in addition to exchanging views on a number of issues of common concern.

This comes before an upcoming visit of the Emir of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, to Washington on January 31.
