- It is a fantastic opportunity to devote myself to conducting full-time research on a piece of contemporary political history that has interested me for a long time.
At the same time, in recent years I had been a little annoyed that no researcher seemed to want to contribute to the realization of the White Paper project, so when given the opportunity to do it myself, I said yes, says Tony Gustafsson in an interview with Kvartal.

Men det finns en oro att hans akademiska karriär skulle kunna påverkas på grund av projektet.
– I mörka stunder tänker jag naturligtvis: ”Det här är väl det dummaste man kan göra karriärmässigt?” Vid andra tillfällen tänker jag i stället att akademin ändå representerar en uppsättning ideal som gör att den faktiskt kan rymma projekt som upplevs som politiskt kontroversiella. Vad som sker får tiden utvisa, säger Tony Gustafsson till tidningen.
