"The key point here is that any steps we take will not be concessions - they will have to be taken on a reciprocal basis," RIA Novosti quoted Price as saying.

According to him, "Russia will also have to do something in order to ensure security."

The State Department spokesman stressed that any steps taken by Washington would be preceded by thorough consultations with US allies and partners.

Price also said that the US plans to give a written response to Russian proposals for security guarantees this week.

Earlier, White House press secretary Jen Psaki said that the US administration is not yet ready to disclose the content of Washington's responses to Russia's proposals on security guarantees.

On January 24, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that Moscow expects a written response from the United States to every offer of security guarantees.
