Germany: a young woman dies in a shooting within a campus

A man opened fire on Monday January 24 during an amphitheater class at the oldest university in Heidelberg, in southwestern Germany, killing a young woman and injuring three other people.

The assailant, with still unclear motives, committed suicide in the process.

It was midday on Monday that a man entered an amphitheater at the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Heidelberg armed with several firearms.

He opened fire and injured four people.

One of them, a woman according to the German press, did not survive her injuries.

The man, an 18-year-old student enrolled at the same faculty according to

He committed suicide, according to the police.

Police have yet to provide details of the individual's possible motives.

German media claim that they were neither political nor religious.
