France bans non-vaccinated people from entering restaurants and sports stadiums

A new French law came into effect on Monday, as people who have not been vaccinated against Covid-19 are no longer allowed to enter restaurants, bars, tourist sites and sports venues in France, unless they have recently recovered from the virus.

Entry to these places requires the possession of a "vaccination card", which is central to the government's strategy to combat the virus.

The government has imposed other limited restrictions amid the increase in omicron infection rates, focusing instead on the permission to receive the vaccine, which was approved by Parliament and the French Constitutional Council last week.

Omicron spreads more quickly than other coronavirus strains, and has already become dominant in many countries.

It also easily infects those who have been vaccinated or have previously been infected with other variants of the virus.

The government hopes to protect the most vulnerable and reduce pressure on crowded intensive care units, most of which are home to unvaccinated patients.
