The Egyptian judiciary says its word in the case of women staying without a mahram in hotels

The Administrative Court in Egypt rejected a lawsuit demanding the annulment of the decision to prevent women under the age of 40 from staying alone in hotels.

The two lawyers, Hani Sameh and Salah Bakhit, made a call to stop the implementation and cancel the security instructions and alerts issued by the Ministry of Interior for hotels, pensions and all related establishments, especially one- and three-star hotels, not to allow Egyptian women or citizens of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries who are under 40 years old, to register Arriving alone and staying in these hotels without their husbands or male relatives.

The lawsuit stated, according to a number of local newspapers, that in August 2021, a number of members of the Egyptian Center for Women’s Rights were prevented from staying in some hotels in the governorates, without facilities. The stay of Egyptian women or citizens of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries who are less than 40 years old, in these hotels without their husbands or male relatives.

The lawsuit asserted that these instructions include clear discrimination and a violation of the constitution and the law, given the right of women under the age of 40 to stay in hotels without a mahram.
