“Certainly,” RIA Novosti quotes his answer to the question of whether Caracas could, given a sharp deterioration in relations between Russia and the United States, find a military-technical form of support for Moscow.

The diplomat noted that Venezuelan politicians and members of the government have already expressed their unequivocal support.

“Venezuela has a fairly developed port infrastructure,” he said, noting that the country has both deep-water and civilian ports, as well as various naval bases. 

In November, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Russia stood in solidarity with the Venezuelan government and President Nicolas Maduro in opposing illegitimate sanctions and interference in internal affairs.
