• Relationships After a very short period of being single, Juana Acosta is excited again

  • Interview Juana Acosta: "The pandemic is making us aware of the situation of our elderly"

At just 16 years old, Juana Acosta received the strongest blow she has suffered in her life. She was about to go to dance class when they received a call at home that her father, Álvaro Acosta, had been murdered. It was the 90s in the city of Cali, in Colombia, where according to Juana herself to LOC,

"life was worth nothing."

The murder went

unpunished and without justice,

as in so many other cases. Almost thirty years after that tragic event, Juana has decided to turn that terrible episode into a play that mixes dance and revolves around forgiveness. Not in vain is it called

El Perdón

and although her tour in Madrid ends this Sunday, the actress announces a tour. "We will go to Valencia, Ibiza, Huelva... Also to the Ibero-American Theater Festival next April."

At 45 years old and with 25 in the interpretation, the actress recognizes that forgiveness in her case has been liberating. "Many years have passed. I have been in therapy for a long time and I have made conscious decisions. I have gone towards the light and life and I have not stayed in rage, in hatred and in death. In this way I have been able to be a mother and artist, otherwise I wouldn't have been able to". However, in his family the news of his father's death did not fit in the same way in all cases. "Violence breeds violence. All the brothers had a very bad time. My older brother was the one who had the hardest time.

He couldn't move forward and cling to life and 15 years later he committed suicide.

This was another tragic episode in my life."

The actress understands that some of her relatives have not been able to forgive and respects it, as long as what she calls a circle of violence is not perpetuated.

"It is very difficult to forgive when there is no justice or memory,

when you do not know who is to blame.

The issue is very complex, that is why it has taken me so long to be able to talk about it."

THE FIGURE OF HIS FATHER

During the creative process in which Juana has had the participation of a national dance award winner like Chevi Muraday, the performer has evoked her father on many occasions. "My father was an extraordinary being, with an enormous human quality. He was the most handsome in Cali, many ladies still stop me when I go back there and tell me: '

Juanita, your dad was the most beautiful man in Cali'.

He stopped traffic He drove men and women crazy. He had a hoarse voice, green eyes, he was always well dressed...". As an anecdote, Juana confesses to LOC how her farewell was. "My dad's funeral was massive. He was married four times.

That day there were those who were his four wives

and there were three or four others who cried like

Magdalenas

and none of my brothers knew who they were.

We wondered why those ladies were so sad.

He was a guy."

Acosta continues to delve into the figure of his father, whom he continues to admire despite his absence.

"He was manager of the federation of rice growers in Colombia, he managed agricultural and cattle farms... Economically he was very messy.

But when he entered a place you couldn't stop looking at him.

That's why his murder had such an impact."

The actress affirms that although the show places a physical and emotional demand on her, she does not rule out dancing again, an exercise that she stopped practicing due to the trauma she suffered.

She tries to squeeze in the good times and comes across as a proud mom.

"I have lived hard times but

I have a teenage daughter who gives me life

and I appreciate all the good things that have happened to me."

She is in a very good moment professionally, since together with her sister Valentina she has started a production company called Calité Films. "This project was born from the need to build our own stories. There is a feminine revolution, of empowerment... And Valentina and I have taken action. There is talk that there are no interesting characters from a certain age who are interpreted by women and so we want this to change and for women to be in management positions. At the moment it is giving us a lot of joy. I am interested in getting more involved in projects

at the production level to have more voice and vote".

His interesting proposal contrasts with the resurgence of Colombian and Venezuelan soap operas that are experiencing a new and true boom.

"I would not be able to answer the reason for its success, although I think that in Spain there have been series like

Velvet

that have raised the telenovela genre.

They still stop me on the street in remote places

because of the character I played in that series" .
