A bill has emerged in the UK to sanction influencers' 'photo editing'.

When influencers post body correction photos on social media, they must attach a logo that states this.

British Conservative MP Luke Evans introduced the so-called 'Digitally Altered Images Bill' on the 12th local time.

Evans argued that the same rules should apply to posts made by influencers, just as a logo is displayed when a TV show contains paid advertisements.

He said, "We are aiming for a 'body-positive' society where there is no body made of retouching," he said. The bill was explained.

In an interview with the local media, Evans said, "When I was a doctor, I saw a lot of patients suffering from anxiety, depression and, at worst, eating disorders because of their body shape. However, there are cases where it is physically impossible to create a corrected body no matter how hard you try.”

In particular, he expressed concern, "The younger generation, who use social media a lot, will have a false perception of the body and long for an unrealistic body shape. This is likely to lead to 'body dysmorphia', a feeling that there is something wrong with their body." .

In fact, according to the UK's National Health Service (NHS), the diagnosis rate of body dysmorphia and eating disorders among adolescents under the age of 17 has risen by 41% since COVID-19. As external activities are restricted due to COVID-19 and social media usage has become more active, people compared their appearance with others and felt a sense of disparity between the transformed photo and the actual appearance through the photo editing app, which led to the disease.

Rep. Evans said, "Even through regulations on photo editing, we need to correct the wrong standards of beauty that have been established in society." I hope I don't feel any more."

Previously, in June of last year, Norway made it illegal for influencers to state that the photo has been edited when posting a photo edited on a paid post, and to violate this rule.

At the time, the Norwegian government also announced that it had drafted the legislation to reduce social pressures on how to be portrayed as ideal.

This is a 'news pick'.
