The atmosphere will be very wintery with morning frosts almost generalized inland and minimums often between -3 and 0 degrees, with 2 to 4 degrees on the Channel and Mediterranean coasts.

The weather will evolve on Friday between gray and sunny spells, while the sun will be generous in the afternoon on the South-East and the mountainous massifs, according to Météo-France.

Friday morning, the clouds will be very numerous over a large part of the country, from the Ardennes to the Center and to Aquitaine, and from the German borders to Lyon, the Massif Central and west of the Pyrenees where it may still fall some snow on the first foothills.

Temperatures often negative in the early morning

With often negative temperatures in the early morning, a few patches of refreezing will be possible locally on roads that have not yet dried. Locally phenomena of mists and fogs will be present. A more variable sky will concern the regions of the North-West quarter, except the approaches to the English Channel where the cloudiness will be heavy. On the South-East quarter the sun will prevail.

In the afternoon, the sun will be generous in the South-East, on the massifs of the Jura, the Alps, the south of the Massif Central.

In the South-West, if the Pyrenean chain will come out of the cloud layer, the cloudiness will remain quite heavy at its foot.

Further north, from New Aquitaine to Brittany, Centre-Val-de-Loire and Burgundy, clearings will generally appear through the clouds, but locally persistent greyness will be likely, as in the Val de Saône.

The clouds will remain more numerous over the northernmost regions.

Showers will reach the borders of the Grand-Est with snow down to low altitude.

On the wind side, the mistral and the tramontana will still be very present with gusts of 90, respectively 80 km/h in the morning.

They will drop slightly in the afternoon.
