Right now it is very wet under the snow in many low-lying places in the mountains.

This means difficult conditions for many animals - and it will not get better when it freezes.

Recently, the World Wide Fund for Nature, WWF, went out and warned that thousands of animals are threatened with starvation after the storm in the mountains.

"Bigger effects than usual"

The difficult situation is confirmed by nature conservationists in Jämtland County.

Admittedly, rain is not entirely uncommon, but the risk is still imminent that this year it will have greater consequences than usual.

- It occurs from time to time.

But this year I think it will have bigger effects than usual because there were mountain lemmings going on.

Now they risk drowning under the snow or those who live in better places will not have access to food when everything is freezing.

So the mountain lemming year may die out, says nature conservationist Alf Kjellström.

Threat to the mountain fox

Something he thinks is highly regrettable because it was a long time ago it was a lemming year last in 2011. And the lack of mountain lemming and other rodents will have major consequences for other game in the mountains, including the mountain fox.

A lot of work has been put into saving the mountain fox in the country and in the last twenty years the tribe has recovered very well.

But if it is what it now looks like, a bad rodent year, it also risks being a real setback for the mountain fox.
