The value and enchanting sophistication in making the ring of jewelry designer, Nigel O'Reilly, which he called "Planet", is only part of the story of that jewel that chose to inhabit the "Expo Dubai" exhibition, before it was displayed within the holdings of the Irish National Museum, which will participate later At a high-level exhibition held in the Austrian capital Vienna.

And Nigel O'Reilly made his ring on display in the Irish Pavilion, from a pink pearl, which sits in the depth of two cups of 18-carat rose gold, where the outer cup lit up with 380 pieces of pink and orange sapphires, so that the inner cup comes in the form of a network whose threads are perpendicular with diamonds in green and pink , so that the ring looks like a planet in whose orbits the stars revolve in its bright colors and luster, but this requires a precise photographic lens to clearly convey the miniatures of the ring, especially from behind the greenhouse that holds it in the pavilion.

big pearl

According to reports about the ring, which "Emirates Today" has seen, the large pearl that represents the central piece in the design of the O'Reilly ring, is of a type known as the South Sea pearl, which is one of the largest sizes of pearls in the world, which requires several months to grow. It makes it one of the most expensive types of pearls.

The South Sea pearl, which extends between the eastern coast of Australia and the southern coast of China, is considered one of the unique gems, not only because of its large size, but as much as it has a smooth smooth surface characterized by the thickness of its outer shell, which can reach six millimeters.

design idea

According to O’Reilly’s website description, the idea of the ring design was based on the theory of natural selection in planting seeds, which appear in irregular scattering of sapphire and diamond crystals on the surface of the two golden cups bearing a pearl, while the hollow base of the two cups allows the contemplator of the ring, to delve into its details.

"dyslexia"

As for the young artist, the maker and designer of the ring, who is no more than 40 years old, reports say that during his childhood he was admired by those around him, as his family and teachers thought that he did not want to learn and read, because his mother was mainly the one who taught him, to turn out later that He has one of the problems of what is known as "dyslexia", which made him completely move away from the decision to attend university and choose an engineering profession in the manufacture of precision instruments used in the restoration of heart vessels, which he mastered before he went to learn making and designing jewelry, after meeting the Irish plastic artist Tracy. Sweeney, for whom he made the first ring in his life from the steel material from which he used surgical scalpels.

cleverness

O'Reilly said: "When he joined the study in the first courses in the jewelry industry, there were only two rings in his house related to jewelry for his mother's engagement and marriage, but he was able, within short years, to be the first Irishman to bring his unique jewelry art to the famous (Sotheby's) exhibition in New York, years after Sweeney persuaded him, who became his wife after four years of their meeting, to take care of his artistic abilities, and to hone his ingenuity in making and designing jewelry.

The real value

The Irish’s appreciation of the human value and its cultural potential, prompted them to display the ring among a group of scientific and artistic creations displayed in their pavilion without addressing the financial value of sapphires and diamonds, which are an important part of Nigel O’Reilly’s ring, which is consistent with a firm conviction that the true value of things is valued. With what it can store of history, art, inheritance, mastery, ingenuity, persistence and beauty, or the combination of all these elements in it, which makes it difficult to evaluate it on its equivalent at any financial price.

• The ring is scheduled to be displayed later in an exhibition in Austria.
