Shuichi and Ai Miyamoto are one of the examples of how the need for qualified labor in Sweden can attract foreign staff.

Shuichi is a specialist in endoscopy and trains medical colleagues at the hospital, while Ai is a nurse in the same department.

They both came to Karlstad and Värmland in response to a call from the health service within the Värmland Region.

- It has been a dream to work in a foreign country.

Via a Japanese friend who worked in Stockholm, I was told that they were looking for an educator in endoscopy in Karlstad, says Shuichi Miyamoto.

The couple has found themselves well settled in Karlstad and have traveled around a lot in Scandinavia to discover and get to know the part of the world in which they now live.

- In Japan, we worked, ate and slept the most, Shuichi Miyamoto explains.

Get time for each other

Ai Miyamoto expresses one of the great benefits that the more restrained working hours provide.

- Now we can spend more time with each other.

I like that, says Ai Miyamoto.

The couple received help from the company Ny in Värmland when they were to leave Japan and establish themselves in Sweden.

The Karlstad-based company's business concept is to find skills, get the skills to move to Värmland and assist them with everything from administration to finding leisure activities and a social life in the new hometown.

- It would not have happened without them.

Everything here is digitized and we did not have a social security number or e-identification, says Shuichi Miyamoto and adds that the language also put obstacles in the way.

In the video above, the couple Miyamoto talk about what they like about Sweden - and what they lack.
