- Deficiencies in fire protection must be seen as serious and remedied, says David Säll, fire engineer at the Rescue Service in the west who participated in the inspection.

The inspection of fire safety was carried out on six occasions in 2021 and a total of 50 deficiencies have been noted.

It is not uncommon for deficiencies in fire protection to be found during inspections.

In an injunction, Varberg Hospital has now been required to remedy the shortcomings.

- They have been given a time limit to remedy each shortcoming, says David Säll.

Security Manager: "Large and old building"

Anders Nilsson, head of security at Region Halland, says that they take the deficiencies that have been discovered very seriously.

- We knew some of the shortcomings from before.

For example, there were staff who did not know how to act in the event of a fire, so we hired a fire resource with a training package to remedy this.

But there is also a pandemic going on, which means that certain staff have not had time to attend the training, says Anders Nilsson.

There may be several reasons why the shortcomings were so many.

- It is a large and old building.

There are rebuilds and thus it becomes a challenge to get the fire protection.

Through the new legislation, the rescue service will do more inspections, and then we will be able to detect the problems earlier.
