- We are surprised that the cracks have grown so much.
It was not expected so we are investigating it carefully and see what we can do about it, says Anders Lindberg, press manager at LKAB.
In May 2020, the largest seismic event in the Kiruna mine ever occurred and was measured at magnitude 3.3 on the local scale and one of the questions is whether that event can have an impact on the crack formation at Hjalmarlundbohmsskolan, Bolagsskolan, Postenhuset and Tempohuset.
- We have not been able to see any exact connection between the major seismic events and the cracks, but it is not impossible that this is the case, says Anders Lindberg
May be forced to move to other premises
Municipal councilor Gunnar Selberg (C) has demanded a plan B from LKAB if it is not possible to conduct school activities at Hjalmarlundbohmsskolan until the autumn of 2023 when the new upper secondary school is completed and now there is a plan if the reinforcement measures would not be enough.
- We are looking at old centers such as hotels Ferrum, Folketshus and Domushuset, we are not sure which ones can be used but we are looking at that together with Kiruna municipality, says Anders Lindberg.
