China News Service, January 19 (Xinhua) According to comprehensive British media reports, British Prime Minister Johnson has recently been caught up in a series of scandals that violated anti-epidemic measures and is facing the most serious crisis in his term.

At least 20 Conservative MPs are said to have written a motion of no confidence against the prime minister, putting Johnson at risk of stepping down.

According to the British "Daily Telegraph" report on the 18th, the Conservative MPs who intend to propose a no-confidence motion for Johnson are all MPs elected in the 2019 general election.

The Conservative Party whip believes that the number of MPs who submit a motion of no confidence in the prime minister is around 20, but some MPs said that the threshold of 54 may be reached as early as the 19th, triggering a vote of no confidence in the prime minister.

According to British media, between May 2020 and April 2021, at least 11 party gatherings were held at the Prime Minister's residence at 10 Downing Street, when the UK twice imposed a national lockdown to strictly limit the number of people in social gatherings.

Johnson, who has faced enormous pressure, has admitted that he attended an event at 10 Downing Street Gardens on May 20, 2020.

Johnson's chief private secretary, Reynolds, sent an email invitation to as many as 100 prime minister's staff, asking them to bring their own alcohol to a "socially distanced cocktail party".

However, Johnson had told parliament that he thought it was a working activity, but Dominic Cummings, Johnson's former chief adviser, said on the 18th that Johnson had deceived parliament and he knew it was a cocktail party.

Johnson denies this, saying he did not lie to Parliament.

In July 2019, Johnson succeeded Theresa May as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and led the United Kingdom through Brexit.
