Deeming the health restrictions too strict, some Italian parents are now choosing to withdraw their children from schools, preferring independent structures, not recognized by the Italian Ministry of Education.  

A phenomenon which is gaining momentum in certain regions such as South Tyrol, which has one of the lowest vaccination rates against Covid-19 in the country.

Since last September, more than 600 children in the province have been removed from the education system.  

They are now educated in "clandestine" schools, without approved teachers.

Twenty-seven establishments of this type have flourished in the region in recent months.

A situation that worries the local authorities.

The Bolzano public prosecutor's office has launched an investigation, suspecting an infringement of children's rights to education.
