“World Health” warns: Omicron is a dangerous and fast-spreading strain, and the coming weeks are critical

Today, Wednesday, the World Health Organization warned of a new Omicron mutant that appeared in South Africa for the first time.

The World Health Organization said that the Omicron mutant is dangerous and rapidly spreading, noting that the coming weeks will be critical.

The organization added, that the pandemic of the emerging corona virus is not close in any way to its end, according to the BBC.

In this context, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of WHO, dismissed the assumption that the highly contagious, newly dominant Omicron mutant is milder, which is likely to eliminate the threat posed by the virus.

He added during a press conference at the headquarters of the World Health Organization in Geneva, that the Omicron mutant caused 18 million new cases of infection worldwide during the past week alone.

He noted that although Omicron may be less severe overall, the narrative that it is a mild disease is misleading.

And the Director-General of the organization continued: You should not be mistaken, as Omicron caused hospitalizations and increased deaths, noting that even the least serious cases burdened health care institutions, according to him.

He continued: With the astonishing rise in Omicron cases around the world, it is possible that new mutations of the emerging corona virus will appear, and this is what makes tracking and evaluation important.

He went on to say: I am still particularly concerned about many countries that have low vaccination rates against corona.

He adds: People are more at risk of developing serious forms of illness and death if they are not vaccinated against the emerging coronavirus.
