The US is working on financial sanctions against "pro-Russian separatists in Ukraine," writes The Wall Street Journal, citing US officials. As expected, the restrictions are aimed at "asset freeze" of at least four people and may be announced on January 20.
According to the newspaper, Washington believes that this will be part of the pressure on Russia, which is designed to "dissuade it from invading a neighboring country."
Earlier, the US State Department said that US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will hold talks on January 21 in Geneva.
