This Monday, a journalist was killed, not far from his home, in Tijuana, in the state of Baja California.
Margarito Martinez, a photographer who collaborated with several publications, is the first victim of this profession since the beginning of the year.

Specializing in police investigations, Margarito Martinez had been threatened on social networks since last December, but had no police protection.
A 49-year-old photographer, he was killed on Monday, January 17, during an assault with a firearm according to the Baja California State Department of Security.
The public prosecutor's office therefore decided to open an investigation, considering that "
freedom of expression, in all its forms, is a fundamental right of citizens
".
One of the most dangerous countries in the world
Margarito Martinez is the first journalist killed since the beginning of the year in Mexico, a country regularly singled out, because it is considered
one of the most dangerous in the world
with a hundred deaths in this profession since 2000 according to the Commission Mexican human rights.
Last year, at least seven journalists were killed there according to Agence France-Presse.

And Margarito Martinez could not be the only journalist killed since the beginning of the year since the body of José Luis Gamboa, stabbed on January 10 in the port of Veracruz has been identified by his family.

The State Commission for the Protection
of Journalists
on Monday asked the General Prosecutor's Office of the State of Veracruz to open an investigation.
