• Christiane Taubira formalized her presidential candidacy on Saturday through the popular primary.

  • The candidate is campaigning with one objective: the union of the left.

  • But it also presented its first proposals.

This is perhaps the "complex thinking" side of Christiane Taubira. Saturday evening, at

20-Heures

de France 2, and again this Tuesday morning, in the morning France Inter, the presidential candidate did not skimp on the linguistic convolutions to explain, in fine, that she will submit to the result of the popular Primary, organized from January 27 to 30. But the former minister refuses the logic of "elimination" and prefers that of "gathering". There was no doubt, for those who did not want to be one more "candidate" on the left, a way to be clearer. What is more, faced with an electorate which, according to the polls, very largely calls for the rally.

.@ChTaubira: “The logic of the primary is not to go home for the losers, it is to organize as a team around the choice made by the voters. It is a logic of gathering. "

So far, Christiane Taubira is the only major popular Primary candidate to have announced that she will recognize the result. Better: even if his relatives refute this “little music coming from his opponents”, the ex-Keeper of the Seals appears to be the ultra-favorite of the consultation, after having pranced in the lead during the sponsorship phase. A victory in the primary and the maintenance of the other candidates on the left – with the exception of that of Arnaud Montebourg: all the elements of the “candidate more” scenario are indeed being put in place. Delicate, when the main project is the union.

"Not the union for the principle"

Among the supporters of Christiane Taubira, we want to believe that the mass of the rally has not yet been said, and could therefore save the interest of her candidacy. Guillaume Lacroix, president of the PRG, open and active support of the former deputy for Cayenne, sums up the contempt of the left-wing candidates for the popular Primary as “pre-vote postures”. "We have political leaders who have the word 'democracy' in their mouths 50 times a day, who all want to promote civic engagement... There is something incompatible in considering that the result of the vote of 250,000 or 300,000 people doesn't count. »

Whether the popular Primary works or not, among those close to the new candidate, we nevertheless understood that it was necessary to give content to the gathering.

"It's not the union for the principle, it's the union to be able to transform the country", explains Olivia Fortin, deputy mayor of Marseille, on stage Saturday in Lyon during the declaration of candidacy of the candidate.

The elected official knows a lot about union: she is one of the founders of Printemps Marseille, a motley left-wing coalition that rocked Marseille in 2020. mantra for three years for municipal elections.

Nobody believed it, we were laughed at.

Lefts reconciled?

For the elected Marseille, the situation is comparable on a national scale to months of the first round, at a time when "we have never needed so much left in the country". Yes, but which left? Sunday, Jean-Luc Mélenchon returned the candidacy of Christiane Taubira to the “misadventures of the center-left”.

Since her true-false declaration of candidacy in mid-December, her opponents have had good luck attacking the former minister, not only on her lack of program, but also on the great vagueness which surrounds what she may well think major issues of concern to French women and men. On Saturday, the former minister of François Hollande put forward a dozen specific proposals in five major themes: the creation of a tax on extreme wealth, an autonomy grant for young people of 800 euros per month, 100,000 jobs for public hospital...

There will be others between now and the vote, she has not yet expressed “the quintessence of her thought”, we say among her relatives. But the Taubira campaign seems to claim not to present “a whole catalog of proposals”. On the theme "a presidential campaign is not a great oral of the ENA", but also "because we do not rally with a tied program to which we must rally", remarks Guillaume Lacroix. For him, the advantage of Christiane Taubira is that she is "unclassifiable on the left" and that she can, "on certain grounds, hear Jean-Luc Mélenchon and, on others, hear the PRG". Concrete example: Saturday Christiane Taubira proposed to increase the Smic to the tune of 1,400 euros net… like the rebellious candidate.Perhaps not an easy task in the context of the so-called “irreconcilable lefts”.
