Bats can carry many viruses, but despite this, they rarely get sick.

Unlike humans and other mammals, bats' immune systems appear to be activated at all times.

In this way, it can react much faster to intruders, such as viruses.

Several bat researchers believe that viruses that have had to fight for their survival against the "superimmune system" of certain bat species become more dangerous when they are transmitted to a species with poorer defenses, such as humans.

But how did bats develop such a strong immune system?

And how can the answer to that question help us humans?

Researchers from Singapore and Ireland think they know the answer.
