At least 43 migrants are feared to have drowned when their boat capsized off Tarfaya off the southern coast of Morocco.

This is stated by the Spanish asylum law organization Caminando Fronteras.

Among the dead are three infants.

The boat was on its way to the Canary Islands, ten miles from Tarfaya, when the accident occurred.

Ten people could be rescued by the Moroccan coast guard, says Caminando Fronteras.

According to the organization's figures, just over 4,400 migrants died or disappeared when they tried to get to Spain from Africa by boat last year.

More than 90 percent of those affected were on their way to the Canary Islands.
