It is good if the penal code only contains what is absolutely necessary, and it is right to also think about abolishing penal provisions that are no longer necessary.

The ban on advertising for abortions is not one of them.

It is an important building block for the protection of unborn life.

Information about abortion is not prohibited and is widely available.

The advertising ban, which has recently been weakened, makes the value of life clear, as does the obligation to provide advice.

There is no doubt that a decision to have a child aborted is not taken lightly. But the Federal Minister of Justice makes it too easy for himself to derive an obligation to abolish the advertising ban from this. The liberal state must also make the importance of this intervention clear (and should also remind men of their responsibility). No woman is liable to prosecution, but doctors and counseling centers play an important role. They must be expected to turn to life, encouragement and help. Unfortunately, the opposite is often the case.

While vaccination is hyped as a major threat to protect against a dangerous pandemic, the major intervention to end life has become a quiet routine.

Ultimately, full legalization of abortion could be the order of the day.

That would have consequences for the value of life - and thus for our dealings with each other.
