The decision on the closure of Solgården was made in mid-December 2020. Both staff at Solgården and locals in Norrhult fought to the last for the nursing home to remain, but the majority in the municipal council voted for a closure, to their disappointment.

Security housing

In addition to the municipality saving money, the idea was that Solgården would be rebuilt into a safe housing, apartments for the elderly that are too healthy for elderly housing.

Something the municipality saw a demand for.

The municipal board in Uppvidinge was commissioned by the municipal council to produce a basis for the redevelopment.

The construction was then estimated to cost up to SEK 11 million.

More expensive than expected

Now the housing company Uppvidingehus, together with consultants, has come to the conclusion that the price tag for the construction ends up at around SEK 29 million.

- It is a huge cost increase in relation to the first estimate, says municipal councilor Niklas Jonsson (S).

The reason why the cost has run away is that higher demands are placed on secure housing than it does on special housing.

At Solgården, it is necessary to fix both ventilation, water and sewage and sound insulation in a completely different way.

- It is very large cost-driving investments that must be made, says Niklas Jonsson (S).

New construction on the wallpaper

On Tuesday, the municipal board has a meeting and the sheltered housing is on the agenda.

Then the hope is that you come to a decision whether to proceed with the reconstruction of Solgården or not.

According to Niklas Jonsson (S), the probability is small that they will proceed with the construction.

- It would be unrealistic rents considering the investments, he says and continues:

- There are many indications that we will proceed with a new construction as an alternative.
