The Japanese Meteorological Agency has caused controversy by labeling Dokdo as its own territory on a map that warns of a tsunami.

The Japan Meteorological Agency issued a warning yesterday (16th) that a tsunami up to 3m high could be observed on some islands in southwestern Japan due to a volcanic eruption on the seabed near Tonga, an island country in the South Pacific.

The Japan Meteorological Agency marked the level of danger such as 'tsunami prediction', 'tsunami warning', and 'tsunami warning' by coloring its territory on the map posted on its website, and Dokdo was included in this map.

If you look at the map, the description of 'Oki Islands' is written on Dokdo, which is painted blue.

The Oki Islands are an archipelago of Japan located in the Sea of Japan and belong to Oki County, Shimane Prefecture.

It is about 158 km away from Dokdo in a straight line and is the closest island to Dokdo in Japan.

Professor Seo Kyung-duk of Sungshin Women's University said today (17th) through SNS, "The Japan Meteorological Agency's website immediately sent a protest email against the labeling of Dokdo as Japanese territory."

Professor Seo said, "Because Dokdo is clearly Korean territory historically, geographically and under international law, the Japan Meteorological Agency's action is a 'territorial provocation'. I also attached a video to the email explaining why Dokdo is Korean territory."

He continued, "Actually, the Japanese Meteorological Agency and the weather app provided by Yahoo Japan have been a problem for a long time by labeling Dokdo as their own land. Because it can instill a misconception among Japanese netizens who frequently visit weather-related sites, through steady protests It must be corrected,” he added.

Japan caused controversy by marking Dokdo as its territory on the map of the torch relay route on the Tokyo Olympic website last year.

At the time of the 2019 G20 Summit, Dokdo was marked as Japanese territory on the website.

Prof. Seo mentioned the above facts and emphasized, "It is time for all of us to come together more to protect Dokdo."

This is a 'news pick'.
