According to Hoffmann, it has been repeatedly stated in Berlin that Germany and the United States are closely connected and discuss many topics in a confidential manner.

She added that in July 2021, Germany and the United States in a joint statement “expressed common goals and beliefs on the issue of supporting Ukraine and European energy security, as well as with regard to Nord Stream 2.”

“We continue to closely discuss the implementation of the joint statement with the US administration, we are in a constructive dialogue at various levels,” Hoffmann said.

On January 13, the US Senate rejected a draft on sanctions against Nord Stream 2 proposed by Republican Ted Cruz.

The White House opposed Cruz's proposed sanctions bill on Nord Stream 2.

The US administration has expressed concern that the bill could undermine the unity of European allies.
