This Friday morning, rescue workers recovered the body of a young migrant in the Channel, off Berck-sur-Mer, in Pas-de-Calais.

Fell into the water during an attempt to cross to Great Britain, he could not be revived by the rescuers at sea, we learned from the maritime prefecture.

The alert was given early on Friday morning after a boat in difficulty was spotted off Berck-sur-Mer.

According to the first information gathered by the authorities, at least one person had fallen into the water.

The victim is a young man in his twenties.

Two fire and sea rescue boats (SNSM), a maritime gendarmerie patrol boat and a helicopter were sent to the area to rescue the shipwrecked.

The SNSM canoe was able to fish out the person who had fallen into the sea, unconscious at the time.

Brought back to the quay, this young man in his twenties of Sudanese nationality could not be revived by the firefighters.

He was declared deceased at the scene.

The boat on which the victim was was towed to Berck-sur-Mer with 25 people still on board, all safe and sound.

Five other migrants were recovered on a sandbar by firefighters before being repatriated to dry land.

According to the maritime prefecture, an investigation has been opened to determine the circumstances of the tragedy.

This young man is the first to die at sea since the beginning of the year.

In 2021, 30 migrants died and 4 are missing in the English Channel and the North Sea.
