The number of new confirmed cases stands at 305,322, down 56,397 from the previous day (361,719).

By calculating the average of daily contaminations over the last seven days, which smooths out the differences, the number of Covid cases reaches 287,603, against 204,662 a week ago.

French hospitals currently have 24,154 patients with Covid, compared to 23,889 on Wednesday, of which 2,513 were admitted in 24 hours.

A week ago, around 21,169 of the Covid were hospitalized.

The number of patients fell slightly in critical care, which treats the most serious cases, in particular in intensive care, with 3,939 patients (3,985 the day before and 3,759 a week ago), including 334 new admissions.

In 24 hours, 227 people died of the disease, bringing the total number of deaths to 126,530 since the start of the epidemic.

Infections have experienced a meteoric rise under the pressure of the extremely contagious Omicron variant.

But it is less dangerous than previous variants of the virus and Covid patients infected with Omicron stay in hospital for less time than patients infected with Delta, according to Minister of Health Olivier Véran.

On the vaccination side, 53.46 million people have received at least one injection (79.3% of the total population) and more than 52 million are fully vaccinated (77.4% of the population).

In addition, 30.5 million people received a booster dose.
