“Ajman Economic Department” warns consumers of fake accounts for selling goods on social media

The Department of Economic Development in Ajman called on consumers to make sure before purchasing any products or merchandise through social networking sites or completing an agreement between the consumer and service providers that are not licensed by the department.

The department pointed out that Consumer Protection Law No. 15 of 2021 stipulates that: The competent authority is not responsible for e-commerce operations that take place through unlicensed providers within the country.

At the same time, the department warned commercial establishments against violating the activity and promoting and selling goods through social networking sites before obtaining a license or permit from the department.

The department also warned against raffles and prizes, or providing incorrect or misleading commercial data about the promoted products, in addition to fraud, imitation and fraud in the service provided by not agreeing with the legislation in force in the country or including false statements.

She stressed that protecting consumers' rights is a societal duty for all members of society to pay attention to, not just Ajman's economy, stressing that consumers' cooperation with the department enhances a healthy framework for a commercial environment that creates a balance between the merchant and the consumer and achieves justice for both parties.

Hassan Al-Shehhi, Director of the Commercial Protection Department, said: We call on all consumers to be careful and make sure before buying products and goods through social networking sites, and to ensure that the merchant who holds the account obtains the commercial license from the Department of Economic Development and is identified in the account, in order to avoid exposure to commercial fraud and deception, whether through Lack of credibility in the product offer, or the arrival of a product other than what was requested.

Al Shehhi affirmed the department’s readiness to cooperate with consumers in resolving complaints submitted in accordance with the laws in force in the country and for consumers, noting that if there is any complaint against a website licensed by the department, it is possible to communicate with the complaints department in Ajman Economy through the Ajman Call Center or through the means of communication Social, telephone, e-mail or department website.
