It is Destination Halmstad that is commissioned to manage the burned gift card money, which was distributed to the municipality's staff as a Christmas gift as a thank you for the efforts during the pandemic year 2020.

As more than half a million was not spent, the funds will instead be spent on local food culture in accordance with a proposal from the municipality's personnel and management committee.

"By improving the conditions for the municipality's small-scale food producers and suppliers to sell and market their products in an attractive location, we hope to give our popular market trade an extra boost," says Louise Uvenfeldt (M), the first vice chairman of the personnel and management committee in a press release. .

Part of the plan is for local producers and suppliers to create a network to run market trade every fourth Saturday where the funds from the unused gift cards can be used to manufacture rentable market stalls.
