After the sanctions adopted on Sunday by ECOWAS and WAEMU, the Malian transitional authorities reacted by denouncing “

 illegal

 ” measures.

The supporters of the military junta, in power since the coup of August 20, believe that the sovereignty of the Malian people is threatened and call for mobilization.

For the transitional government, Cédao and Uemoa are “

instrumentalised by extra-regional powers with ulterior motives

” Understand: France and the western partner countries of Mali.

In addition to the measures adopted by reciprocity - closing air and land borders with ECOWAS countries and recalling ambassadors in member countries - Bamako promises response measures for the "

next few hours

 ".

An extraordinary Council of Ministers was to be held at the end of the day, this Monday, January 10.

No official communication at this stage.

But already, in the country, many civil society organizations are showing their support for the transitional authorities.

The Front for Emergence and Renewal in Mali (FER-Mali) even calls for mobilization.

“

Mali must stand up. We should not rely on others. So we strongly support the vision of the transitional authorities. The Front for the Emergence and Renewal in Mali calls for a general mobilization of all Malians and friends of Malians throughout the country to support the transitional authorities and condemn these illegal, illegitimate and inhuman sanctions of the presidents of the Cédéao

”, declared Sory Ibrahima Traoré, president of FER-Mali.

On Sunday, after an extraordinary summit in Accra, the Economic Community of West African States endorsed the decisions taken by the West African Economic and Monetary Union, a few hours earlier. Namely: freezing of Malian assets; cut financial aid; closure of borders between Member States and Mali; suspension of transactions with Bamako, with the exception of medical and essential products, petroleum products and electricity; freezing of Mali's assets and assets in all central banks of ECOWAS member countries; freezing of the assets of the government and state enterprises of Mali in all the commercial banks of the ECOWAS; withdrawal of ambassadors from all member countries in Mali;immediate activation of the ECOWAS standby force, to prevent any risk of destabilization.

Gatherings have already been organized in Bamako, Sunday evening and especially this Monday afternoon.

No doubt there will be others.
