• Education Madrid decides that students up to 12 years old who are in contact with a positive do not keep quarantine

  • Education Objective: reduce quarantines in classrooms: "Children are infected on Halloween, not in class"

Dance of figures in the return to school in Madrid.

The Community of Madrid ensures that

2.99% of teachers missed work today because of Covid

, CCOO says that 6% were absent, the directors of centers calculate 8% and the PSOE indicates that 10% did not attend class of the staff of public and subsidized centers made up of 80,000 teachers.

According to official data from the Ministry of Education of the Community of Madrid, during the first day of class after the Christmas holidays and until 4:00 p.m. today, a total of

2,377 teacher withdrawals were reported due to the pandemic.

For the Minister of Education, Enrique Ossorio, the number of infections "can be a problem" as it was already in December, shortly before the holidays, when 1,700 teachers were registered on leave.

The CCOO Madrid Teaching Federation calculated the loss of 6% of the teaching staff, about 3,000 teachers, an equation that does not correspond to the one carried out by the Community.

The union also indicated that

the directors of schools and institutes are "uneasy",

because this situation may worsen given that the peak of infections has not yet been reached "and because the Government of the Community of Madrid" has not taken any measures to minimize the impact of the lack of staff or to prevent contagions in the workplace.

On the other hand, in the data collection that CCOO is carrying out on a center-by-center basis, "a very significant number of student absences was observed."

The teachers union ANPE, for its part, raised to

an average of 9% the absences of teachers and around 10% those of students,

according to its own survey, although "the data vary greatly from one center to another."

Similar figures were handled by the Association of Directors of Institutes of Madrid (Adimad), which quantified between 8 and 10% of the Secondary, Baccalaureate and FP teachers who did not attend the institutes because they were infected.

For UGT, the percentage "does not drop below 10%, due to the data provided by the management teams and affiliation", and considers that

Education could be counting as complete "all the templates

" of the centers that have not yet notified their casualties, according to Efe.

CSIF, for its part, placed between 5 and 8% of the teachers on leave after conducting its own survey, "and it may go up", although it clarified that some centers consulted gave them total figures, without breaking down by type of leave, and that "Perhaps this has motivated the disagreement with the Ministry."

Likewise, the

general secretary of the PSOE of Madrid and spokesman in the Assembly, Juan Lobato,

criticized that more than 250,000 children went to the classrooms today without having a teacher due to the "mismanagement" of the regional government. Lobato, who visited the Blas de Lezo school in Parla to analyze first-hand the measures taken by the Community to return to class, said that “there are between 8% and 10% of teachers with absence that could have been solved by putting the measures proposed by the PSOE 15 days ago are in motion ».

The Socialists telematically summoned the entire Educational Community on January 3 and recommended the immediate liberalization and hiring of interim positions to unfold classrooms and cover Covid-19 casualties enabled and located in centers on the same Monday, January 10 and guarantee the distribution of masks to the entire teaching community and students.

The Ministry of Education assured that the General Directorate of Human Resources already made today "

a total of 956 calls to cover full-time absences

and that they join today Tuesday."

Both ANPE and CCOO consider this number of calls "insufficient", since the educational centers already had, since before the pandemic, a percentage of 0.8% of the workforce with other withdrawals pending to cover due to retirements and other causes.

The unions agree that the return to the classrooms, in the middle of the sixth wave, is done "without providing additional resources" and that

the only measures that "Madrid educational centers can use are reduced to opening windows and cross ventilation

"According to CCOO.
